Enthralled by colour, as "natural expression of beauty" the artist has also appropriated methods and styles and influences from all over the globe. Flemish nudes, Nubian body scars and Papuan face paintings and post modern collages are a few that definitely play influential roles in his aesthetic. Primarily a painter the ishabaka has experimented in a wide variety of medium: raw pigments, oils, acrylics. multi-media printing.

"I am an idealist" proclaims Shabaka, "it is from that space that I approach the art making process, regardless of medium."

Originally from Jamaica, Isha Shabaka lives in Brooklyn, NY and Kpando, Ghana. Continuously reinventing himself by layering new skills and selected ideas to his repertoire . For the past 30 year he been making visual images in canvas and clay, wrought iron and fabric. Now with photography, his themes, dreams and colorful schemes have now crossed over into digital realm and back to the physical.
